Result:    Overall team runners up  Individual medals: Gold: Tilly Howe & Georgie Miller   Silver: Hannah Kelly & Antonia Lewis Bronze: Lauren Dunn, Meredith Wilson, Emma Wyatt, Olivia Holden & Katei Vogel

Comment:  A team of 13 girls travelled to High Wycombe to represent Marlston House at the IAPS Judo Congress.  All the girls competed in at least two fights before being knocked out or progressing in the competition.  Most of the girls won at least one fight demonstrating some competitive judo. Even those who were unfortunate not to win fought with spirit and determination and were gracious in defeat.

Five of the girls were in the U28Kg weight category. Sian Bahia narrowly missed out on qualifying for a medal. Lauren Dunn and Meredith Wilson won all but one or their fights and were both rewarded with a bronze medal. The final was a contest between Antonia Lewis and Tilly Howe. Both girls demonstrated some excellent judo but a decisive ipon from Tilly saw her awarded the gold medal and Antonia the silver. .

In the middleweight categories there were fewer competitors so the girls had to fight everyone in their group. Hannah Kelly produced some very measured judo and progressed to the final. She fought hard but her opponent was strong and eventually defeated Hannah who won a well deserved silver medal.

In the heavier weight groups the girls found themselves up against some very experienced judo players. However our girls were undeterred and demonstrated some good judo techniques. Georgie Miller won a gold medal in the smallest weight group of the tournament, whilst Olivia Holden, Emma Wyatt and Katie Vogel were all awarded well-deserved bronze medals. .

Each fight won on the mat contributed to our overall points score. This combined with the points won by our medallists meant that we were the overall team runners up. A fantastic day's judo and a great performance from all the girls who took part. Congratulations to all the individual medallists and the whole team on becoming The Girls IAPS Judo Runners up 2010.      SR.
