The Brockhurst 1st XI footballers have just completed a magnificent seven wins in seven matches, to bring to a close a memorable school soccer season for the new coach, Mr Lewis.
It is the first time for several years that the boys have finished unbeaten - and the victories were rarely in doubt.
In fact the closest match was the last, a 2-1 win away at Daneshill on a small, muddy pitch, where the Brockhurst boys had to hold their nerve as their hosts launched a late attempted comeback.
But the team never had assumed they would win each game, and never took anything for granted. That was the key to success - and so it proved once more, as they helped one another when the pressure was on.
Captained by Luca Ryan, the Brockhurst footballers always bought into the blend of passion and fun advocated by Mr Lewis. Every single player performed well all season - and they can feel extremely proud of their achievement.
The new coach wanted the boys to move the ball quickly - and when they did so, the results could be scarily good.
The highlight was probably an 8-1 win at St Andrews, whose coach said generously: 'Brockhurst are the best Under-13 team I have seen in years'.
Spanish flare, English grit, a foundation laid down by previous coach Chris Brannam and the whole seasoned with humour and togetherness. This team had the lot.
As an enthusiastic parent said succinctly, 'Well done boys. Magnificent.'
For the record, here are the results:
Pangbourne (away) - won 7-0.
Crosfields (home) - won 3-1
Leighton Park (away) - won 4-0
St Andrews (away) - won 8-1
Horris Hill (home) - won 4-1
Thorngrove (home) - won 6-0
