The Philosophy of Harry Potter

“I’m sorry, but that's completely ridiculous! How can I possibly prove it doesn't exist? […] I mean, you could claim that anything's real if the only basis for believing in it is that nobody's proved it doesn't exist!"

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows      J K Rowling

A general studies talk which will explore some of the amazing and brain scrambling philosophical questions that can be found in the Harry Potter books. This is your opportunity to find out what Plato and Aristotle have to do with Ron and Harry!  Even if you have never read the books or seen the films, the questions and the philosophers themselves are still really interesting!

 Mrs Philippa Toogood, Downe House

The founder and CEO, Dr Sarah Fane OBE will give an illustrated talk covering her travels as a doctor in the region during the Soviet war and under the Taliban. The talk aims to challenge perspectives on Afghanistan and to offer a window onto a remote corner of the country where Afghan Connection is transforming lives through education. If you love cricket there will be plenty on that too!  The blog is www.sarahfane.blogspot.co.uk
