The co-educational Pre-Prep was founded in 1929 and is now located at the heart of the prep schools, in purpose-designed accommodation. The building has been designed specifically for the age group and it lies adjacent to the main prep school, within its own garden and play area.
The aims of the Pre-Prep is to give children a happy start to school life, to provide opportunity to work and play together in an ordered and happy atmosphere and to foster kindness, good manners and consideration for others. We also believe that a thorough grounding in Literacy and Numeracy lays the foundation for a confident and successful school career.
Ridge House is a happy and secure environment for boys and girls aged 3 to 6 years. Small class sizes ensure the children’s individual abilities are nurtured to the full and that they have close personal relationships with their teachers, which helps to build confidence and develop their talents.
Children are accepted into the Nursery from the term of their third birthday. We have the flexibility to offer morning, afternoon or all day sessions. The minimum attendance requirement is three sessions per week, although most children attend more. The morning session finishes at mid-day and the afternoon session finishes at 3.45 pm. Children who are registered for our Nursery are invited to attend a toddlers’ and parents’ free swimming session every Wednesday morning.
There is an After School Club available which can look after pre-prep school children until 5.50 p.m. if desired. There is also a free early morning breakfast club from 7.45 am.
It is via the Nursery and pre-prep department that the majority of pupils join the main schools. Boys transfer to Brockhurst and girls to Marlston House when they are aged six (Year 2). Pre-Prep children use all the facilities of the senior schools and therefore the transition from Pre-Prep to the main school is smooth and automatic.
