Brockhurst & Marlston House Schools

Reception Stage

In the Early Years we recognise that every child is unique. In Reception we provide a happy and stimulating environment enabling our children to flourish both socially and academically. The curriculum aims to develop important life skills such as curiosity, creativity, persistence, independence, imagination and resourcefulness.

Our children follow ‘the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum’ which is tailored to suit every child’s learning needs and abilities.  The school day is full of exciting opportunities where children learn through a mixture of play, child initiated and teacher led activities.

Other popular paid for activities include Ballet, Yoga, Judo , Street Dance and extra swimming. Reception is located in the heart of the school and the children have access to the outstanding facilities and specialist staff in the senior school.

The garden and school farm offer numerous opportunities for learning. Our outdoor activity afternoon ‘Welly Wednesdays’ allows children to take part in lots of seasonal activities that allow them to observe the natural changes that occur throughout the year. Children enjoy exploring footpaths, the woods, the River Pang, Marlston Farm and most importantly muddy puddles. Welly camp is the final destination of every activity where children enjoy hot chocolate, toasted marshmallows and pancakes around the camp fire.
