Brockhurst & Marlston House Schools

Leadership and Governance

David was educated first at Brockhurst and then Radley College.  He is a science graduate of Oxford University (Trinity College) where he studied under Professor Richard Dawkins and Lord John Krebs.  He then spent five years studying medicine in London and took a further MSc at Reading University before joining Brockhurst.  Whilst in London, he served in the HAC regiment.  He has been Head for twenty years and in that time has applied his interest in science to developments in education.

Both his daughters were educated at Marlston House before progressing to Downe House School and from there to study sciences at Bristol and Oxford Universities.

Stuart Raeburn-Ward,
Head of Brockhurst Boys

Bronwyn Raeburn-Ward,
Head of Marlston Girls

Stuart and Bronwyn joined Brockhurst and Marlston House in 2006 with their family from Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh and have been instrumental in developing our outstanding boarding provision for full and flexi boarders.  As Head of Boarding, Stuart leads a committed team of hugely enthusiastic and caring staff who work tirelessly to ensure that there is a home from home environment for our boarders.  They have three daughters, the two eldest having left Marlston House and moved on to Downe House.

Governance

Brockhurst and Marlston House is a privately owned family school. To assist with and to broaden its governance, it has a panel of oversight Governors who bring expert advice and guidance to the leadership team with a particular focus on safeguarding compliance and educational attainment.  These two areas are respectively the responsibility of Dr Belinda Griffiths (GP with extensive history of working with government in both London and Reading on safeguarding, and formerly a parent of five children in the school) and Dr Christopher O’Kane (Fellow of Worcester College, Oxford, old Brock and also father of a former pupil and a Governor at Downe House school).
